The latest news out of Orangeburg, SC, is that the Orange Beach State Park will open for the 2018 summer season this week. The park will be the first in the state to have the park open for the season and also the first to be open 365 days a year.

Orangeburg’s City Council is currently in session on the 2020 Summer Olympics. The city will also be holding its yearly Summer Olympics in Orlando.

That’s right – the city voted to open the park 365 days a year.

Orangeburgs news got a lot of attention online last week when the Orange-Parrish County Chamber of Commerce put out a press release that included a press release about the park. They also did some additional coverage a few days ago on Facebook. That coverage included a few of the city council meetings that the Chamber was holding – something that the Orange Beach Parks Department was not present at. That was all that was being reported about this new park – other than that the park was open.

I’m glad those extra meetings were included. It’s great that the Chamber is trying to get more public funding for the parks department and is trying to get more of the people who live in Orange Beach involved in that effort. But in my mind, the Park Director is still the city manager at this point – and that manager is still out there doing his jobs.

I am the type of person who will organize my entire home (including closets) based on what I need for vacation. Making sure that all vital supplies are in one place, even if it means putting them into a carry-on and checking out early from work so as not to miss any flights!
