Internships have grown in popularity since the end of the dot-com bubble. Interning isn’t just about getting a job or being taught to code. It’s about having a lot of exposure to a lot of different aspects of computing, which can teach us a lot about ourselves.
The internship is a great way to learn more than you possibly could in school, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be in the field of coding. In my own experience, internships tend to be a good way to get a taste for what it’s like to work in a team environment. I’ve seen interns get to know their co-workers and to learn the ins and outs of what it’s like to work in a office setting. You can also go the less corporate route, where you work on web development but put up a website for your company.
In a lot of companies, internships are a good way to get to know a lot of people, as well as get the chance to learn how a company works. My personal favorite is the internship for a startup, where you get to work on a particular project for a couple of weeks.
As a startup, it’s really hard to tell who you’re working with. You’re not the only intern, so you have to be very careful not to make any mistakes that expose your company to risk. If you find yourself in an internship with a company that’s particularly tricky, it’s easy to see how the company could end up damaging itself.
The best internship Ive found was with a startup that I am sure I’m not alone in thinking is a bad idea. Their internships are generally the worst because youre expected to be a “hacker” and youre expected to work on a particular bug that they’re working on. Also, if you make a mistake, youre a jerk. I dont think they even have the courage to hire anyone like that.
I think most companies are just as bad as the startup I mentioned above. Also, it’s a good idea to know the company before signing anything. I personally have a few job offers that i just couldnt pass up.
The company I worked for had a great culture where we had a small group of people that were good at what they did. We were all given responsibility and a few managers and the company was very supportive. This is all I know about Internships.
