It’s nice that we have something to say about motherhood at least, because it does give us a chance to talk about the world without having to be so serious about it.
I’m the mother of two wonderful kids, and I’m going to be a mother. I actually went back and forth about saying that, and I said, “Well, I’m going to be a mother,” and the next thing I knew, my whole world was turned upside down. I had to go to a therapist.
That’s because motherhood is so much of a woman’s existence, it’s a topic that is almost never talked about. In the past, there was a lot of pressure on women to have children, but in the last few decades, women have been allowed to get married, have babies, move on, and get on with it. It’s not exactly the same as being a mother, but it’s also not entirely different.
Im not quite sure how many women in technology that I know understand the concept of a “baby.” But the last few years, it seems to have been a bit more mainstream for women in technology to discuss it. For one, its becoming more of a part of the job description. In addition, women in technology have been able to discuss it in a more serious way in the past few years. Women in technology can now talk about having a baby with a man without them being embarrassed.
I have a friend who is a co-founder at a startup in the tech industry. She’s definitely taken the time to discuss the baby topic with her co-founders. And to be honest, she talks about it just as easily as she talks about the business aspects. Women in tech are definitely more comfortable talking about it.
