They are a lot like headphones.
It’s a bit like when we buy an iPod because we were told that it would be great for gaming, but we soon find out that it only plays tracks that are already on the iPod, so we have to listen to a lot of crappy music. It’s like buying an iPod that only plays music that’s already on your iPod.
The same goes for PS5’s headphone jack. It sounds like Sony’s hoping that gamers won’t realize what they are missing. Or maybe they want us to give up on the idea that it’s actually useful.
Like the headphone jack, PS5s are really, really cheap, so you can grab one for under $30. It only comes with one stereo cable and the rest of the box is unnecessary, but as an added bonus, you get a headphone jack that you can use with any PS4 console.
Personally, I think this one is just a way for Sonys to keep the PS5s from getting too expensive to play with. Sure, it’s useless for doing any other things, but it is convenient for playing with the headphones. It’s also a little cheap to throw in the box, but so are the PS5s, and the only reason to get it is for the headphones.
The PS5s have been a bit difficult to get for Sony to sell with a headset in them, but they may finally be coming soon. Sony is rumored to be working on a headset that has a built in headphone jack, and it’s possible that we may see this in the near future.
The PS5s will allow you to use either a wired or wireless headset, with the wired ones coming with USB-to-3.5mm Adapter, and the wireless ones with a jack in the back. The wireless ones will have a built in microphone and speakers, which should be more useful when playing music and gaming together.
