I recently got into a bit of a debate with a bunch of folks about whether certain games are actually good for your brain. I was really just making this post to put a smile on a couple of friends faces, and I came across this article from the Huffington Post wherein it was suggested that a lot of video game playing is actually quite bad for your brain. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed in this idea.
It may be that games are indeed good for the brain, but I think the authors of this article are wrong in their generalizations. Games are a way of thinking and experiencing the world, rather than just playing a game. They are the opposite of a full-blown entertainment experience. They help you think, feel, observe, and make sense of the world around you.
Well, that’s the bad news. The good news is that video games are actually a lot more engaging than they look. They help you forget about the drudgery of sitting at a computer for many hours on end, and instead give your brain something to do. You can walk around your house and do something you wouldn’t be able to do if you just sat in front of a computer all day.
This is the part where I would start to bristle, but I’m a bit more optimistic that it is at least partly true. Video games are actually much easier than they look, and that is one of the reasons why I like them so much. Games are not just mindless fun, but also provide a very cognitive experience. You don’t have to sit around and stare at a screen.
Video games are a great tool for people who are struggling with attention. As I mentioned above, a lot of people have trouble paying attention to a video game. In fact, only a very small percentage of people who play video games are actually paying attention to what is happening in the game. It is easy for a person who does not pay attention (or really any attention) to a game to become bored and start to disengage.

It’s a great way to practice the ability to move your body (which can be learned through any discipline such as ballet or yoga), and it’s also a great way to practice the ability to focus through a problem. So I’m at my new apartment now, and I just got the new ps33d game. It’s very easy to use, but I’m still very new at this kind of thing.
