A lot of the original Nobleman, Baron, and Gentleman characters were designed to play the role of bank presidents and politicians. However, Nobleman also had an actual title. Since Nobleman was a title, the title of Nobleman became the title of Nobleman.
Nobleman was originally an NPC, a member of the Noble family. This meant that Nobleman was a bit of a mouthpiece for the nobility, like a kind of ambassador. Because Nobleman was a title, Nobleman was more of a role-playing title character. Nobleman was the first of the many Noble family members that are actually playable in the game.
