The newport news police department is a great example of how policing has changed. When I was in high school, a police officer would come to our school to pick us up every morning. Now, the officer comes to our school in the evening, is there for us, and then leaves. In the past, we would have to wait until the officer appeared and then get in the car. Now, we can go straight there.
When a police officer shows up to pick you up, they’re not there to arrest you. They’re there to help you. And when you go to school, you don’t have to worry about that. In the past, teachers would tell the students that if one of them had a problem, they needed to come down to the school and wait for the police officer to come. Now, if a problem occurs, the students can go straight to police headquarters.
