On the plus side, my PS4 keeps turning itself off. This means that I have to manually power off the system every so often in order to avoid losing my progress. With more and more games getting updated every month, it would have been nice if I could just play on my PS4 from the comfort of my couch.
This is actually a good thing. The new generation of consoles is known for letting developers do what they want, but it’s only recently that we’ve started to get into the habit of having games update themselves properly. I can see a time when it would be nice if there was a way to get a game to update automatically, especially a game that’s been out for a few months or years.
Right now its a bit of a hassle, but I can’t blame publishers for needing to update their games. It is a requirement of the modern internet economy that games be updated regularly. As long as developers can charge money for a title, they will. So for example, every month it would be nice if the new Tomb Raider reboot came with a game update. This would also let people play the game with their friends, which is something publishers don’t seem to do much of.
Well, I can’t blame publishers for needing to update their games. But if this is an industry that cares about the longevity of its products, why not spend your money elsewhere? That’s what some publishers are doing with the new PS4. They are offering a $50 discount price on their games, so that is money they can spend on marketing.
I know if it were about a game, then I would be all over it. But if it is about a new console, and the majority of consumers would rather buy a new console than buy a new game, then the publishers have to be a little more careful about updating. The one thing that’s worse than a company’s marketing dollars going to waste is the amount of time that developers are forced to spend updating software because it doesn’t sell the way they want.
Games are a business. That said, it is very easy to over-promise with a game. The one thing that developers are always careful to avoid, is “If its a game, then it will sell”. Well, the reason that developers are so careful about this is because they are only as good as their worst games.
I think it’s safe to say that PS4 games are getting worse, but it isnt all down to that. I have played a lot of old games and I think the best are PS1 games. In fact, my favorite is the original Xbox1 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I remember when it was released in Japan, and my mother bought it for me. I was 16 at the time and I remember thinking it looked so cool.
My mother thought it looked so cool, but it wasnt until I started playing it again that I discovered that it was a complete bore. The plot was a complete failure, the controls were awful, and there was a terrible voice acting. But it took me a long time to realize that this game wasnt that great.
So I was happy when the Xbox2 version of OTT came out. I had some friends, and we all bought it at once and played it together over a weekend. We were all excited to try it, but after a week or two of play, I started to get the feeling that this game wasnt all that great. It was pretty much a complete failure. I found that I could not play it without getting bored, and that the controls were horrible.
I think it’s safe to say that in a way, Sony’s new PS3 game, The Last of Us, was a huge hit. It was even better than its predecessor, which was a huge hit.
