While it is true that we have access to the world of electricity, we are still dependent on various electrical generators to keep our homes, and even to power our cars, so there is something to be said for self-awareness and the ability to make decisions.
Electricity can be a great source of power, but it is also a major source of air pollution (it is what causes our air conditioners to run so hot). Also, we are still dependent on an electric grid that is constantly changing and unreliable. It is also a major source of greenhouse gas emissions.
Although we are dependent on electricity, we are also dependent on nuclear energy, which has been decimated in the recent years. It has been estimated that the nuclear industry produced 6.7 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2009 alone and that is just the nuclear industry, so we are still dependent on fossil fuels.
What is important, however, is to be aware of our electricity consumption. The fact is that most of the time we don’t even need electricity. We are so connected with the internet (that is our lifeblood) that almost anything can be done by electricity. In fact, even if we don’t need electricity we can still use it.
