When I was younger, my parents always told me that I would one day have a significant other.

They said they would be the person who loved me unconditionally and supported me in everything that I did.

As an adult, it’s clear to see now how right they were.

Sure, life isn’t perfect and we will each disagree on some things from time to time .

But these disagreements don’t mean anything because my significant other is always there for me at the end of the day with a hug or words of encouragement.

In my opinion, a significant other is someone who has given us primarily positive reinforcement.

It’s not only about physical attraction but also knowing that they’ll support you in whatever it is that you want to do and say yes when we ask them for help or advice.

A significant other doesn’t expect anything from me beyond what I’m willing to give them freely as well.

So if one day the dynamics change then it will be clear both of our needs were never being met anyway.

All this goes back to my parents telling me all those years ago because now they’re right .

Life does go on without a partner by your side! But sometimes having their love and encouragement means everything more than ever before.
