School boards can do many things, but there are some they cannot.
For example, school boards cannot be a member of the board of education and vice versa.
School boards also cannot establish curricula or textbooks for schools in their district because that power belongs to the state government.
School boards cannot dismiss or suspend a teacher for refusing to submit to the board’s policies.
But they can terminate teachers who violate those policies.
