This has been the hardest question to answer for me, so I thought it deserved its own post! Why? Because it is one of those questions that I have been getting asked all season long, and the answer is that it depends on the person. If you know you are going to have a bad episode, you will definitely cancel it, but if you are just not prone to any episodes, you probably won’t cancel it at all.
I have never canceled a PS3 subscription. I only canceled a PS2 subscription, because the PS3 was a major PITA with its weird and buggy connectivity. I know that for a lot of people, they will cancel it for the PS2’s connection to being more stable, but I still want to know the reasoning. I also don’t have the patience to wait through all of the e-mail and other crap that comes with canceling online services.
I have to go out on a limb here and say that I have never canceled online gaming services. I still believe that canceling them is a terrible idea. However, there are other things that people do that, for me, are even worse. I don’t get any notifications whatsoever when they cancel a subscription. I get a message that says “Your online account has been cancelled.” Nothing further.
This is not a problem, but it is a problem. This is because the problem is that the cancellation process involves the cancellation of the online account. In other words, if you cancel online, you lose access forever to all your games. If you want to watch a movie, then you have to wait until the movie is finished before you can watch it again. If you want to use your PS3 for a game, you have to buy the game, and then it is gone forever.
This was a major pain point for many of us when we signed up for PSN. For us it was because we didn’t understand why we would lose access to games we’d bought, especially if we had purchased it on a certain day. This is very similar to the problem of canceling online accounts, except in this case we can’t get our games back until we pay to have them reinstated, which we only do on a billing cycle.
The good news is that, unlike the online accounts, PS N is free to use. However, because the PSN is free, you will only see PS3 games, and if you are not a member of the Playstation Network, you cannot access the PS3 content. For those of you who have not learned this lesson yet, the PS3 is a console that can only support a certain number of online users, which is about 1.
It is a little confusing, but PS3 games are available online, but you cannot access them unless you are a member of the network.
With the PSN now free to use, you can cancel your subscription at any time. If you receive a notification message, you can click on it to visit the subscription section of your account where you can cancel online access. If you don’t cancel your online access, you will be billed for the month, so a good cancellation plan is to start the month with a free month, then cancel online and save the $9.99 for the full month.
This is a great way to save money. I have been a member of PSN since day one and have never had to cancel a subscription (I have an unlimited online plan). I would recommend against cancelling before you head to your next game or a new game and instead just wait until you see the message to cancel.
I have always had this issue, and I’ve never had it cancel. I go to the cancel box on my ps3 and it just says I have a new subscription, I go to my ps4 and it says I have a new subscription and so on. They don’t cancel it for me, but this is a good reminder to cancel and not to forget about it.
